About
This monumental zoetrope was a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and cutting edge innovation. Timeless, hand drawn cell animation captured in realtime, with a setup conceived in the digital age. Design and performance working harmoniously together to create motion pictures, the likes of which have not been seen before.
Each animation cell was 3m wide and printed on canvas. Together the 150 cells made a 450m stretch which was setup along an airstrip outside Madrid, Spain. As the car sped along the runway, a DSLR was triggered to capture each cell with flash photography at a precise moment. This resulted in a smooth 15 fps sequence, all facilitated by the smooth motion of the all-electric Nissan Araya.
This project was a directorial partnership with James Medcraft.
